We work hard in our School promoting Environmental Awareness through our Green Schools Programme. In the past we have successfully achieved flag status for our work on recycling, energy saving and water conservation in our school building. We are currently working towards our fourth flag which is about transport. We are activity trying to encourage the children to walk, cycle or park and stride to school. We launched our Walk on Wednesdays campaign last May with the Junior School where every pupil was asked to walk into school.
We have just held a poster and slogan competition within the classes and our congratulations go to Ms Moynihan’s 3rd Class and Ms Owen’s 6th Class on their winning entries. All entries are displayed around the school.
We also have appraisal charts which can be seen around the school where the children colour a leaf on a tree each time they walk to school. It is a visual way of seeing the efforts made by the children. We will be doing weekly random counts in each class also to identify the class making the most effort and they will be given the “Golden Boot Award”. With all this in mind, we ask parents please to do their bit and park and stride and let their children walk in each morning (weather permitting). It has the obvious health benefits and will reduce the congestion at the school roundabout every morning.
Thanking you all in anticipation.
