Olympic Handball:

On the 18th of May the U-12 Boys Handball Team went to Dublin to play in the Handball League Finals. We were competing against four other schools. It was not an easy day but in the end we won the league and we got a nice trophy.

As the Olympic Handball Season fast approaches, we are delighted to have over 70 children from 5th and 6th classes registered with the IOHA. Training commenced at the end of September on Tuesday's from 2.30pm-3.30pm. Two teams will be selected to represent St Mary's SNS in the South Dublin Leagues and these will compete with other schools. There will be a boys team and a girls team. Ms Smith and Ms Nugent are coaching the teams.

Greystones Track & Field

On 17th of May 176 children from our school went to Greystones for a track & field competition. The events included relay races, sprints, long jump, high jump, long distance and tug of war. Alice Naughton, Liam Broderick, Roisin Brien, Jordan Walsh and Rebecca Brereton are but a few of the people who won medals on the day. St. Mary's SNS won the tug of war at several class levels this year. We arrived home at 3.30pm exhausted after a great day out.

Hurling:

The first ever St. Mary’s hurling team took to the field in October 2006 when they took part in a Hurling Blitz in Roundwood.  The team played brilliantly and certainly did the school proud.  Both Mr Ryan and Mr Sheridan were delighted with the performances on the day.  The players were:  Conor Devlin, Daniel Kell, Darragh Duffy, Kyle Geraghty, Diaran McEnroy, Declan McEnroy, Luke Cullen, Andrew Byrne and William Eustace.  Well done lads. At the moment Mr Sheridan is checking out how many budding "DJ Carey's" there might be in the school. More news to follow.

Gaelic Football:

The first GAA Blitz of the season will be held in Dunlavin shortly. Teams from Valleymount, Hollywood and Dunlavin will take part. We had a great victory against Baltinglass on Monday, March 14th in our first game of the West Wicklow League.

Indoor Soccer league:

Our whole school took part in an indoor soccer league which Mr Sheridan and Mr. Mc Corristine very kindly organised.

It was so much fun. The league was split into two competitions -the 3rd Classes and the 4th Classes played each other and then the 5th Classes and the 6th Classes played each other. The finals were played outside on a lovely sunny day with the whole school watching. The senior game was won by the '6th Class Team' and we (Ms. Heraghty's Class) won the other final.

By: 4th Class.

Athletics:
The annual cross-country races are held in Rathdrum and Valleymount each year. The next event will be held in Valleymount later this term. Trials etc will held nearer the time. Ms Moynihan will be looking after our teams. Best of luck to everyone.

Spikeball

Training will be after school from 2.30pm-3.15pm. Keep an ear out and Ms Power will be announcing details soon. There has always been a huge interest among the 5th and 6th classes.. Three school teams will be picked after the mid-term break from all the hopefuls! Best of luck.

All that training paid off as the school's boys' team finished 3rd in the All-Ireland Final which was held in Limerick last May.

Swimming:
Once again our swimming programme in Tallaght Community School will be starting soon. The children learn a new life skill and it is always amazing to watch them improving week by week.  The swimming instructors have been full of praise for the enthusiasm and good manners of the children over the years.  Any volunteers to accompany the children swimming would be greatly appreciated.
